The
days are getting shorter, the mornings are noticeably
cooler. As August turns to September, autumn
shall soon follow. August was in a mellow frame
of mind as temperatures remained relatively
mild and generally under the century mark with
no prolonged runs of triple-digit temperatures
that are so common during this hottest time
of the year. Air quality has remained on the
clear side with some residual smoke settling
into the Kaweah canyon in the mornings that
is drifting from the north as a result of the
Sheep Fire in the Cedar Grove area of Kings
Canyon National Park. This lightning-caused
blaze is now approaching 3,000 acres in size.
